so, what can i do?
first and foremost
Legalizing anything will prove to be difficult, and just because you can't do everything doesn't mean you shouldn't do something. By just doing research about the issue to understand it and support it, you're already doing more than most. Prositution has been around since civilizations began and always will be, so continuous support over time from society will give the issue a good foundation to rest on. Again, even if you're only sitting here feeling guilty because you don't have the power to legalize it and help those suffering, you are already on the right side of the issue.
getting involved
Here are a couple things you can do,
- Start a petition, or sign an existing one.
- Organize protests, or join one.
- Do continous research and keep up with updates about prostitution where you live
- Some people genuinely go into the job because they enjoy sex and are intelligent enough to see it as an easy way to make a living
- Some people are forced to go into the job because they are kidnapped or will be attacked, so joking about it like it is always consensual is inhumane
- Some people are violated, raped, or killed because of ignorant opinions like yours
- The dangers of the occupation are very real issues you or your loved ones can one day face
- Consent is given, not assumed
- Sex is natural, always has been and always will be, so acting as if it should be shameful is foolish
- While you make these remarks, millions of people risks their lives just to get by day by day, so check your privilege
